The Ashvale is a chain of fish and chip restaurants and takeaways in the north-east of Scotland. The main restaurant is on Great Western Road in Aberdeen; it opened in 1979. There are other restaurants and takeaways in Banchory, Portlethen, Brechin, Dundee, Elgin, Ellon and Inverurie. A certificate is given to those who successfully manage 'The Ashvale Challenge' of eating the 'Whale' and a mug is available for £2.50. * Dr G.
